Alvin Thomas Atkinson
January 10, 1937 - February 17, 2022
Al passed away peacefully February 17, 2022, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital with his wife Judie and brother Howard at his side and his daughters waiting nearby.
Al was cherished husband of Judie Kathleen (Saunders) for 62 years.
He was born in Sandwich Township, Windsor, the oldest son of Albert Atkinson (deceased 1989) and Vera Atkinson (Barron) (deceased 1969).
Alvin was predeceased by sister Dorothy Atkinson (1937) and sister Verna Clements (2021)
Loving Father of Rebecca (Peter Hansen), Cynthia (Dale Brooke) and Sally-Jo (Daniel Jones). Loving brother of Howard Atkinson (Linda) (Eva deceased)
Cherished Papa by Jared Karnes, Noah Karnes, Emily Karnes, and Lilianna Jones.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Al was a man of many words, opinions and beliefs and he loved sharing them as he dropped in to visit. He was not afraid of hard work, enjoyed working with his hands and helping people with projects.
His fellowship with his “grumpy old men” coffee crew discussing farm life and politics will be sadly missed. He also cherished his many Mennonite friends.
Al was not afraid to start a business and build its’ worth. In his lifetime he worked with Canadian Pacific Railway, Ingersoll Police, Tillsonburg Police, built A & J Drive-In Restaurant, started the Rebecca Rounds Ranch, and grew Atkinson Timber Products.
He was active with Oxford Trail Riders, Norfolk Saddle Club and Ontario Paint Horse Club. He will be remembered for his travels and for his comical comments as an announcer at the horse shows.
He also loved to show off his waltzing and polka skills with his beautiful wife in his arms.
He was hockey coach for the A & J Apollos, and baseball coach for A & J Angels (women’s team).
Honouring Alvin’s wishes, there are no funeral arrangements. Memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or VON Sakura House are appreciated and may be made directly, or (by cheque) through Wareing Cremation Services, 346 Simcoe St., Tillsonburg, Ontario N4G 2J8 who have been entrusted with final arrangements.
