Barbara J. Boyd

Barbara Jean Schnurr Boyd passed away peacefully at home on August 1, 2022, in her 68th year.
Loving wife of Roger Boyd. Survived by sisters Mary Ellen (Erling), Cathy (Hans), and Patricia, brothers Dale (Laura) and David (Veronica), and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Jack and Evelyn (Mortimer), and brothers Stephen and John.
Barb was born in Walkerton and moved with the family to Shallow Lake during high school. She studied in the Fashion Design program at Ryerson for one year, then returned to the Owen Sound area to work at the Co-operators Insurance, eventually becoming a life underwriter. She and Roger married in 1980, and they moved to Woodstock in 1982. Barb returned to school while there, earning a diploma as a Developmental Service Worker. That led to employment at the Oxford Regional Centre until its closure in 1996. She continued to work in social services in Woodstock, Hamilton, and Brantford until her retirement in 2016.
Her large extended family was very important to her, and she enjoyed the family reunions and hosting and visiting a wide variety of relatives. Always an avid sewer, Barb made numerous items for family and friends, and quilts for Victoria’s Quilts. With a large property in Burgessville, Barb created and maintained many beautiful flower beds, and harvested vegetables to be eaten fresh or cooked, canned or pickled.
She and Roger enjoyed camping, cycling, and hiking. They travelled often, visiting all ten provinces, many states, Cuba regularly, and other places including Europe, Chile, and Viet Nam.
Our thanks to all of the Health Care workers who have seen Barb over the past two years, and to all of her relatives and friends who provided support.
According to Barb’s wishes, there will be no funeral service; Barb's ashes will rest at the Walkerton Cemetery.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Barb’s memory may consider Victoria’s Quilts, or the charity of their choice.
