Born in Gistel, Belgium on April 23, 1938, Ben passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on Monday June 17, 2024.
Cherished husband and best friend of Louise (nee Houler) for 65 years. Loving Dad of John (Karen), his infant son Ronnie (predeceased), and Rita (John) Tesselaar. Pepe of grandchildren Tracey Vantyghem, Tyler Vantyghem (Kiesha), Tara (Matt) Driver; Steven Tesselaar (Sarah), and great grandchildren Landon, Bentley, Hayden, Jeffery, Cale, Lilah, and Remi. Brother-in-law of Sonja Vantyghem, Ingrid Monkhouse, and Albert (Brenda) Houler. Predeceased by his siblings Simmone, Fernand, Roland, Theo, and Eric.
Ben moved to Canada in 1956, working in different jobs until he started to share grow tobacco in 1966. In 1977 the family was on the move when Ben and Louise purchased a tobacco farm in P.E.I. While living there, Ben purchased additional property that he converted into a fee fishing pond known as “Ben’s Lake”. With the decline of the tobacco industry, the family returned to Ontario in 1991. A great storyteller, Ben’s greatest pleasures were country living, fishing and hunting.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
