In Loving Memory
Bruce Scott Wilcox
It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Scott Wilcox announces his sudden passing at home, surrounded by family, on October 17, 2023, in his 79th year.
Beloved husband of Leslie Ann Wilcox (née Stephenson), loving father of Aaron Scott Wilcox, partner Lyndsey Westfall, and cherished grandfather of Jackson Scott Wilcox. Predeceased by his parents, Donald Scott Wilcox, Dorothy Rose Wilcox, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jack and Mary Stephenson. Bruce had an immense love for family, treating his large extended family as if they were his own. He will be lovingly remembered by Leslie's sisters, the Stephensons: Linda Moffat (née Stephenson) is the mother of Angela Matthews (née Moffat) and the late Catherine Moffat, who passed away in 2006. Angela is married to Michael Matthews, and they have a daughter named Eilish Carey; Suzanne Bamford (Stephenson) is married to Gary Bamford. They have two sons: John Bamford, who is married to Holly Bamford, and Dr. Robert Bamford, who is married to Jane Bamford; Mary Elizabeth Stephenson, with Robin Glenny as her significant other, has two children: Ryan Rusnak, married to Dr. Cara Rusnak, and Keenan Harrup (née Rusnak), married to Greg Harrup. In addition, Bruce's memory will live on in the hearts of the many great-nieces and great-nephews who will always remember his warmth and kindness.
Bruce was born in Birmingham, England, on May 6, 1945. He immigrated to Toronto in 1948 and grew up in the Humber Valley. Bruce excelled as a Meat Supervisor for National Grocers and a Butcher for Dominion Stores. He was affectionately recognized as Dominion’s face behind the "Mainly Because of the Meat" slogan, famously highlighted in the 1970s Toronto Star.
With a profound love for baseball, Bruce served as a fundraiser and equipment manager for the Mississauga Sheridan Baseball Association. He later actively raised funds through his business Town Talk Coffee and Donuts for the Tillsonburg Baseball Association and Glendale High School, ensuring that any of his fundraising remained within his community.
Bruce was a man of many talents, and his love for music was undeniable. One night, when he took to the karaoke stage, onlookers might have believed that Elvis himself was in the building. Beyond his showmanship, Bruce had a gift for storytelling. With a hearty laugh, he would share tales that blurred the lines between fact and fiction — such as his steadfast claim of sighting the Loch Ness monster while visiting Scotland.
Bruce's spirit and laughter will be dearly missed and will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 4, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Carriage Hall, 25 Brock Street West, Tillsonburg, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the Family would deeply appreciate memorial donations to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation.
