It is with deep love and profound sadness, the family announces the passing of David Roger Barnes on March 30, 2026, peacefully at home with the love his life Robin by his side, following a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on November 28, 1944 in Tillsonburg Ontario, the cherished son of Bernard and Reta Barnes (nee Bilger). Dave is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Robin with whom he shared a life of love, devotion, adventure and respect supporting each other through life’s joys and challenges. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his children Larry Barnes (Connie), Marlo Reagan (Michael), and Brad Barnes (Dani). He was a proud grandfather to Justin, Brendan, Mikayla, Carter and Kaylee, and a cherished great grand-father to Thomas and Elijah. He will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews who loved him greatly. Survived by his sister Esther Allison (Jack), and brother Richard Barnes, he was predeceased by his big brother Russ, sisters Elaine and Eunice. He will be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Gina Newell (Jim Newell predeceased), and he was a dear brother-in-law to Mark Kleyn and Lynda Lichti (predeceased).
Eventually moving to Woodstock, Dave became a proud co-owner/operator of Kendall Cab for over 40 years. Dave was not just a driver; he became a familiar and trusted face in the community. His strong work ethic, fairness and willingness to help others earned him not just customers, but lasting friendships. Alongside this, he was also a landlord who took pride in doing right with people, always ready to lend a hand when needed. Dave had a deep love for the outdoors, especially the times he spent moose hunting with his buddies, moments he truly cherished. He loved a good road trip enjoying the freedom of the open road and the simple pleasure of the journey. Dave was a passionate collector of classic cars and motorcycles and spent many hours in his garage which became a gathering place for many.
Dave lived with the energy and laughter of someone far younger, reminding us that age is only a number when the heart is full.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 17th, 2026, from 2 to 7pm. This event will take place at the Woodstock Canadian Legion Branch 55, 642 Dundas Street, Woodstock, Ontario.
