David Thompson

The man that would stop to talk to anyone, a friend, a family member or even a stranger; that is how David Ray Thompson could be described.
David “Dave” was known by his family and friends to be “quite the character”, nick-named Super Dave and known by everyone who he came in contact with. He was stern and gruff at times, but a giant teddy bear underneath that strong exterior.
Dave was born on May 7, 1939 and resided in Teeswater, Ontario until 1944 when his family moved to Colborne, Ontario. In 1961 Dave returned to Teeswater to work at the Teeswater Creamery where he was a Stationary Engineer and worked in the Maintenance Department.
Dave met Mauna Lynne Thompson (Tunney) in the Spring of 1961 and 5 years later, on August 6, 1966, they were married.
By the time 1969 rolled around Dave and Mauna Lynne were able to build their own home that they resided in for 50 years. In 1974 they welcomed their only daughter, Stephanie.
Dave was always keeping himself busy over the years, puttering around fixing things, woodworking projects, volunteering his time on the Teeswater Town Council, a member of the Lions Club and always working on projects for his family, friends or community. He enjoyed walking miles each day where you would see him with his Tilley hat, suspenders and famous orange radio headphones. Dave retired from the Teeswater Creamery (later bought by Gay Lea Foods) after 43 years of employment at the age of 65.
As the years went by, he welcomed three grandsons and one great-granddaughter who were the apples of his eye. He was so very proud of his family and would tell anyone who would listen.
In 2019, Dave and Mauna Lynne sold their home in Teeswater and moved to Woodstock, Ontario to be closer to their daughter.
Dave passed away in the Woodstock Hospital on Tuesday November 22, 2022 at the age of 83 with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandson by his side.
Embrace your angel wings and fly high, we love you!
Dave is survived by his wife Mauna Lynne Thompson, daughter Stephanie Thompson (John Paul Nicholson), grandsons Tyler (Shannon), Brody, and Reece, and his great-granddaughter Brynlee, his brother Doug Thompson, sister-in-law Hilda Thompson, and several nieces and nephews.
Dave is predeceased by his parents Earl and Kate (Becking) Thompson, sister Marjorie Chisholm, and brothers Harry and Harvey Thompson.
There will be a family graveside Service held in Teeswater in the Spring of 2023; information closer to the date will be extended at that time.
If anyone is wishing to make a memorial donation, we ask that you make donations to the Woodstock Hospital in memory of David Thompson.
