Dennis Baker

January 12, 1942 — November 28, 2024

Dorchester, Ontario

Dennis Baker passed peacefully at home on November 28, 2024 after an extended illness.  He was born January 12 ,1942 in Timmins, Ontario.  Survived by his wife Shirley, children Corrie Boyce, Rob Boyce, Lynn Demings (Kevin), and Brian Baker (Deb).  Loving Poppa to granddaughters Grace (Zander), Hanna (Ryon) and Dana Leedy.  Survived by his sisters Doris Daniels of Peterborough Ontario, and Marjorie Deverill of Pickering Ontario.  He will be sadly missed by family, cousins, friends and neighbours.  Predeceased by his parents Margaret Baker (O’Conner) born in Lindsay, Ontario and his father George Baker born in Kincardine, Ontario.

A typesetter and printer, Dennis followed his father George into the trade.  He worked as a linotype operator for several southern Ontario newspapers including the Globe and Mail in Toronto.  He owned and operated Baker Typesetting Service in London, Ontario during the 90s until the business became obsolete with the advent of computers and desktop publishing.  He then owned and operated several taxis in London, Ontario until retirement.

Family fun was always an outdoor event with road trips, camping and swimming at the beach. Our granddaughters loved spending time at our cottage on Georgian Bay.  Shirley and Dennis travelled extensively in Canada, the United States and Mexico in a recreational vehicle.  His favourite trip was along the Alaska highway from Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Delta Junction, Alaska.   Dennis was a VON volunteer for 15 years.  He enjoyed driving clients to appointments and delivering meals.

The compassion and care received from the Home and Community Care Support Services, Palliative Care Team, Ontario Health at Home, VON and St Elizabeth Health supported us both on this journey.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations made to charities that support Mother Earth are most appreciated.

Wareing Cremation Services, 225 Norwich Ave., Woodstock, Ontario was entrusted with Final Arrangements.  Your messages of remembrance and condolence may be shared here at wareingcremation.ca
