Donald Wayne Armstrong

May 23, 1956 — October 11, 2024

Courtland, Ontario

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald ‘Wayne’ Armstrong, who left us peacefully after a courageous and long battle with illness on October 11, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.  Born on May 23, 1956, Wayne was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished brother who dedicated his life to those he loved.

Wayne’s family was his pride and joy. He leaves behind his beloved wife and soulmate of 45 years, Virginia (nee Baird) Armstrong, his children Tim (Cassie) Armstrong, and Lindsay Armstrong, and his treasured grandchildren Callie Armstrong and Grayson Knechtel, who will forever remember him as “Papa.”  Wayne was also the proud “grandpa” to his grandpuppy, Lexi, who brought him joy and companionship. His legacy of kindness, humor, and strength lives on through his family and the memories they hold dear.  Wayne will be deeply missed by his siblings: Joan (Reg) Ronson, Judy (Rick) D’Hondt, Joe (Mary) Armstrong, Terry (Pat) Armstrong, and Wray Armstrong (Kelly Lewis).  He will also be missed by his brothers-in-law David (Christine) Baird and Paul (Karen) Baird, as well as several nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his father Joe Armstrong, mother Betty Armstrong, father-in-law William Baird, Jr., mother-in-law Lois Baird, sister-in-law Cindy (Baird) Stoyles and brother -in-law Ray Stoyles, Jr.

Wayne had a zest for life and enjoyed cheering on his Toronto Maple Leafs, golfing, and traveling the world with his wife.  He found happiness in outdoor fires with family and friends, where he shared laughter, stories, and lasting memories. Wayne dedicated over 30 years to his career, working at IMT and Ingersoll Fasteners, where he served as Supervisor and Purchasing Manager, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses on the 2nd Floor North at Tillsonburg Hospital and to the PCOT Team, especially Nurse Practitioner Danielle and Nurse Rhonda, for their compassionate care during the past year and a half of Wayne’s life.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held.   A Celebration of Life Open House for Wayne Armstrong will be held on Sunday November 3, 2024, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the Tillsonburg Legion, 16 Durham Street, Tillsonburg, Ontario.  Wayne’s family and friends will remember him for his warmth, his steadfast spirit, and the countless ways he brightened their lives. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Purrfect Companions Delhi honoring Wayne’s love for animals and his compassionate spirit.

He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.  His love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
