Donald Howard Moss

April 29, 1949 — March 19, 2025

New Hamburg, Ontario

Don passed away on Wednesday March 19th, 2025 at Freeport Palliative in Kitchener, after a lifetime of asthma and more recently lung and heart disease.  His wife Donna, their daughter Amy and her children Izzy and Max, and their son Andrew, his wife Lynnette, and their daughters Char and Mia, were all with him at his time of passing.

It's difficult to condense 75 years into a few sentences.  Don was born in Woodstock, then briefly lived in Bright, when at the age of 5 his parents Harry and Lorna, along with his 3 siblings, moved to Plattsville where he spent 44 years of his life.  One of Don's greatest pleasures was playing minor hockey and ball for Bright and Plattsville in his adolescent years, and while refereeing a girls hockey tournament in 1974, he met Donna.  They were married the following year and raised their family in Plattsville until 1998, at which time they moved to New Hamburg.  He enjoyed coaching hockey, baseball and junior curling during those years.

Don worked for the City of Kitchener for 38 years starting as a junior draftsman and ending his career managing the Concrete Program.  He was a passionate Toronto Maple Leaf and Blue Jay fan.  If he wasn't watching the games on TV, he was listening to them in his woodworking shop, where in his retirement he built rustic birdhouses from scrap wood and salvaged material.  He progressed over the years to numerous creative projects and attended several craft shows in Ontario.

His love for his family was always evident.  His children and grandchildren were everything to him.  He made our world a better place.  Don is survived by his brother Ben Moss and his wife Janet of Ayr, his sister Susan and her husband, Bob Beer of Breslau, and his sister Jane and her husband Jim McCartney of Goderich.  He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law, Karen and her husband Mark Cook of Tillsonburg, and his sister-in- law Pat and her husband Rick Mah of Spruce Grove, Alberta, along with his many nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt thank you to the Freeport Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association
