Don Ross passed away peacefully in the Woodstock Hospital surrounded by family on Wednesday August 14, 2024, aged 86.
Don was born in New Liskeard and moved to Beamsville in his youth. He was a man of numerous talents and eclectic interests. Trained as a design technologist, he developed an interest in pottery which spawned a long and satisfying career of nearly 40 years with his wife Maureen manufacturing hand crafted stoneware tableware. Don was also an early member of the St. Catharines Motor Club and an avid participant in navigational rallies at the regional and national levels, often partnering with his best man Paul Montgomery. This interest and many others were inherited by his sons, David and Gordon.
In his retirement, he moved to Woodstock where he engaged his artistic side and participated in gallery showings with the Ingersoll Arts Guild and shared his abundant patience, kindness, wisdom, and good humour as a teacher of ceramic arts who was well loved and appreciated by his students. Most importantly, this move allowed him to share those same gifts with his grandchildren, Sophia, Arthur, and Stewart, whom he adored and was adored by. Don is survived by Maureen, his wife and partner of 56 years, his children David (Shawny) and Gordon (Lisa), his grandchildren Sophia, Arthur, Stewart, Kendall, and William, and his sister Charlotte (George) Cottage. Don was predeceased by his parents W. Bruce and Lorna (Brownlee) Ross, and his grandson Owen.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. A celebration of life for Don will take place on Saturday November 2, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Sixthirtynine Restaurant, 639 Peel St., Woodstock, Ontario.
