Doris Helmer passed away peacefully at the age of 91, on April 8, 2023, at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.
She was the eldest of nine children of the late Hugh Clifford Graves and Annie May (nee Rutledge) Graves. Doris was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Harold Reuben Helmer (Feb. 1, 1930 - Oct 28, 2022), and her siblings; Clifford Walter Graves, and Mary Alla Acorn.
Doris is survived by her sons Bradley Harold Helmer of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Terry Bryan Helmer of Walsingham, Ontario, her grandsons Brett Ashley Helmer (Ellen) of Bozrah, Connecticut, Richard Aaron Helmer (Tarah) of London, Ontario, Ryan Lee Helmer of London, Ontario, and her great grandson Weston Pane of London, Ontario.
Doris is also survived by her siblings: Ruby Alice Jean Burnett, Harold Robert “Chuck” Graves, Betty Marie Gee, Clara Ilene DePlancke, Barbara Ann Holden, Donald Hugh Graves, and many nieces and nephews.
Doris and Harold lived on their farm where they grew tobacco and grain, from 1952 until their recent passing. Doris loved working in tobacco at home, and on many of their neighbour’s farms. After retirement Doris enjoyed many summers with family at their campground near Angus, Ontario, and shopping in London with her sister Mary.
Doris cared deeply for all of her family, and made an effort to help out at every opportunity. She was a devout Christian, and a lifelong member of the Frogmore Brethren In Christ Church “The Mission”.
Thanks so much to all of the family who visited her during her final days, and offered support to her children. Also, many thanks to the wonderful Staff at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, for their compassion and support of Doris in her final days.
