It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Doris L. Hayward (nee Waters) from Embro, Ontario following a brief illness on Saturday December 7, 2024 at Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll, Ontario. Born in London on November 25, 1931 to Harry and Beatrice Waters.
Doris graduated as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in the early 1950's, and devoted most of her professional life caring for others at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock. Predeceased by her husband of 40 years Keith Hayward (1995), and her two siblings Jack Waters (2016), and Joan Guilbert (2023). Doris leaves behind her two sons Mark Hayward (Lynn), and Scott Hayward (Judy). She was a devoted grandmother or "Gram" to her two grandchildren Ashley (Corne), and Cody (Kristina). Doris will be missed by her many nieces and nephews along with others that knew her as Grandma.
Doris was known for her no-nonsense attitude, her witty one liner’s, her dry humour, and the desire to live life her way right up until the end. Throughout her 93 years she enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time along the shores of Lake Erie in Long Point and Turkey Point, when she wasn't travelling the world.
To respect her wishes there will be no funeral service, and a celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Memorial donations made to VON Sakura House, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
