It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Benjamin “Ben” Vannatter on Saturday April 4, 2026, at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, at the age of 69.
Beloved husband of Leana Vannatter, and loving father of Andy Vannatter of Courtenay, B.C. Ben was predeceased by his cherished daughter Keala Vannatter. Brother of Dean Vannatter, Donna Acre (Joe), and Debbie Alward. He will be remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and family in South Africa, including Petro and Benjamin. He was the son of the late Harry and Betty Vannatter formerly of Frogmore. Ben was predeceased by his sister Darlene Lee, and sister-in-law Nancy Vannatter.
From an early age, Ben found peace and comfort in the outdoors. He loved spending time in the woods, camping, and fishing - activities that brought him great joy throughout his life. During his time living in South Africa, he especially treasured visiting game parks and seeing the “Big Five,” which fascinated him deeply. In his final months, Ben shared a special bond with his loyal Bouvier companion Delilah, who brought him great comfort and companionship.
Ben was the founder and co-owner of Dream Auctions in Tillsonburg, a business born from his passion for finding a great deal. Through his work, he touched many lives and helped countless families in the community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Those who spent time with Ben experienced his gentle, kind and generous spirit. He openly shared his life experiences and reflections with those willing to listen. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Ben had a deep compassion for others—especially those struggling with mental illness and addiction, causes that were close to his heart.
Ben was at peace and ready to leave this world. We take comfort in knowing he is now with the Lord, but forever in our hearts.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” — Revelation 21:4
