With heavy hearts our family announces the unexpected passing of Edward Shelly at his home on Friday May 22, 2026.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Carol Shelly (nee Prong). Proud Dad of Allen, David, and Jason (Monica). Loved Papa of Elena (Brent), Robert, Katie (David), Thomas (Robert), Daniel, Aissa, Sadie, Hailey (Trent), and great grandfather of Jack. Remembered by his siblings Marie Matthews, John (Lynda), and Fred (Polly), sister-in-law Catherine Prong, and his many nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Kathleen, brothers and their spouses Brian (Pauline), and Derek (Butch), and brother-in-law Ken Matthews.
Edward Shelly was a member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp., and a proud Veteran. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 524 serving as President, Service Officer, Sergeant at Arms, a helper delivering Christmas packages at Parkwood Veteran's Hospital, as well as his involvement with youth education for local schools. Ted had a long career as a truck driver with his company Otter Valley Trucking, and through the years he served his community as Deputy Chief of the Port Burwell Fire Department, a Village Councillor, Scout leader, baseball and hockey Coach. He loved chatting and helping his neighbours. In retirement, Ted enjoyed camping with the Trailer Club.
Cremation has taken place. Please join us for a Celebration of Ted's life on Saturday June 13, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 524, 40 Wellington Street, Port Burwell, Ontario. Memorial donations made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 524, Port Burwell are appreciated.
