Garry was born in Tillsonburg, Ontario and talked often about his home in Courtland, Ontario with his mom, dad, twin brother and older brother. Dad discovered his love of playing football in high school. He went on to complete his education degree, teaching English at Parkside and then moved to Saunders taking on a Vice Principal role until retirement. He took the opportunity to coach or assist with football whenever he could. Some of my best memories are him on the sideline.
Garry loved being a dad to my sister Kristin, brother Josh and then me, Jennifer. We grew up with a supportive, encouraging, protective and present father. Heartbreak changed him and for years he lost himself. Years later we were getting our dad back, the man who loved us so deeply and would do anything for us. Sadly, heart surgery in 2020 caused a large stroke and my dad’s cognition changed. Thankfully he was still able to travel to Ecuador to visit Kristin (and Mark) who was living her dream, continued cooking great food, having lunch dates with Jennifer, golfing and visiting with friends, walking Whitey, and remaining as independent as he possibly could. Garry loved his grandchildren Darien, Devin, Liam and Kaleb. The last 7 months were very challenging for Dad as cancer and continued strokes affected all of him. He still enjoyed emailing friends, sharing jokes and spending time with Whitey and his longest and dearest friends Bruce and Leslie.
Throughout the years Garry dealt with so much loss - his parents, common law partner Andrea, friends, twin brother Jerry, his wife Alice and most heartbreaking was the loss of his daughter Kristin. He lived until his body had nothing left to give him. I am grateful to have taken care of him, watch him find peace, and stand beside him with Whitey and my husband Mark until his last exhale. I will remember the true man you are. The man with a giving, loving heart, who would do anything for those he loved. I love you Dad, now and always. Kiss Kristin for me. I miss you both so much.
An Open House to celebrate my dad will be held in the New Year. Until then, please feel free to donate to your favourite charity in memory of Garry Weise. He loved sports, animals and education. Keep your hearts real. Let the icky stuff go. We all deserve to love and be loved unconditionally.
