It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Harvey “Harv” Robert Nielsen on August 29, 2026, at Woodstock Hospital in his 71st year.
Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, on November 2, 1955, Harvey was the youngest of three children of the late Leo and Gertrud “Trudy” Nielsen. He went on to build a beautiful life centered around family, community, and his favorite pastimes. He was the devoted and loving husband to Margaret “Maggie” Nielsen (nee Morrison). He lives on in the hearts of his children, Heather Nielsen (Joshua Muirhead), Kate Nielsen, and Brent Nielsen (Jenny Kondrashikhin). He was the incredibly proud grandfather of Kennedy and Cassidy, who brought immense joy to his life.
As the longtime co-owner of SacWal Flooring alongside Jack Visser, Harvey took great pride in being a local business owner. For many years, he and Jack poured their dedication, integrity, and expertise into serving their community, forming lasting bonds with customers and colleagues alike.
When he wasn't at work, Harvey could almost always be found on the golf course. An avid and talented golfer, he embraced the unique challenges of Craigowan Golf Club and the many other courses he played over the years. His time on the greens brought him countless cherished friendships, unforgettable memories, and the ultimate golfer's pride, two career hole-in-ones.
Harvey’s warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional specialists, doctors and nurses at LHSC, Woodstock Hospital, St. Elizabeth Health, and Oxford County Paramedic Services for their compassionate care and support, with a very special thank you to Dr. Tamachi.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or First Tee Ontario in memory of Harvey, would be deeply appreciated by the family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Final Arrangements have been entrusted to Wareing Cremation Services, 225 Norwich Ave., Woodstock. Your messages of remembrance and condolence may be shared at www.wareingcremation.ca
