Irene C. Porkristl

     It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Irene Christa Porkristl (nee Brentke), our wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister and Aunt, of Waterford, Ontario on November 2, 2024, at the age of 88.  She will be dearly missed by her children Jurgen, Andrea, and Monica, grandchildren Jaime, Melissa, Layla and Leif, as well as nieces, nephews and friends.  Irene was predeceased by her loving husband Josef and her sisters Ilse-Dore Triebe and Sabine Ruth Brentke.

     Irene was born in Konigsburg, Prussia on December 20, 1935.  At a very young age she was displaced with her family during WWII and landed in Schwenningen, Germany.  After marrying Josef, they decided to immigrate to Canada, leaving behind friends and family in the Black Forest.  Josef went ahead to work in St. Catharines and Irene followed shortly after with their newborn child in 1958.  They settled in Hamilton where she worked as a bookkeeper for many years.  She was a passionate collector and sold antiques for over 40 years.  Irene loved music, skillfully playing mandolin in the German Baptist Choir and sharing her joy with a beautiful singing voice.

    The family would like to thank the Staff at Golden Pond Retirement Home and Norfolk General Hospital for their compassionate care during Irene’s illness.  She will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.  Wareing Cremation Services, 346 Simcoe St., Tillsonburg has been entrusted with Final Arrangements.  Your messages of remembrance and condolence may be shared here at wareingcremation.ca.    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society are appreciated
