James Ekins

Woodstock, Ontario

          James Benjamin Ekins ‘Smokey’ passed away peacefully with family by his side at Woodstock Hospital on Wednesday January 7, 2026, in his 86th year.

          Born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario, Jim worked at Timberland Equipment for 42 years until his retirement in 2005.  He enjoyed hunting, conservation, the outdoors, bowling, and he was an avid walker.  Jim was actively involved in the Oxford Fish and Game Club for many years.  He was an advocate for Alzheimer’s by being part of the client advisory committee and participating in the many programs offered.

          Jim is survived by his wife Wendy (Moon) of 47 years; his children Carl (Tawnya), John, Bob and Cathy; grandchildren Tiffany, Carah, Felicity, and Ayva; great grandchildren Jace, Kayden, and Valerie; his brother John (Marilyn), a niece and many nephews, and of course his beloved dog Ryker.  Jim was predeceased by both his parents Carl and Viola, and his brother Bill (David).

          The family extends appreciation to the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners Oxford County and the VON for their continued support.  We invite you to remember Jim (Smokey) in your own way – whether through a quiet moment of reflection, sharing stories with loved ones, or through a donation in his memory to the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners , or other charity of your choice.  A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.  The family appreciates your kind thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
