Janet Elizabeth Blair Kendrick

June 12, 1939 — November 11, 2024

Woodstock, Ontario

Janet suffered with dementia for her last few years.  It robbed her of her vitality, her abilities and her zest for life.  Janet was born in Northern Ontario, completing the family of David Blair and Dorothy (Willars) Campbell.  She had two older brothers, Bruce and Dougal.  The family moved to her favourite province ‘Nova Scotia’ and settled in Kentville.  Following high school, she earned a music degree from the University of Toronto and began her teaching career in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  While at the University of Toronto she roomed with Mary (Popple) Skelton, who has been her best friend ever since and now lives on Vancouver Island.

Janet’s intentions to be a “career teacher” changed when she fell in love with Gavin.  They were married on August 19, 1964 in Kentville, Nova Scotia.  Three years later a daughter Erin was born, followed in 2 years by Colin, and in another 2 years by Brian.  The family has lived in Woodstock, Ontario since the summer of 1967.  Janet was a wonderful person and a loving mother to her children.  She was super organized and always tried to do her best at whatever she was doing – musically, teaching, cooking, golfing, weaving or playing bridge.  Caitlin, Erin’s daughter, inherited her grandmother’s musical talent and is an accomplished cello player.

Janet had a few special friends in Woodstock.  One was Yuriko (deceased) with whom she golfed, traveled about, coupon dined and had fun. Secondly was Ethel Herron, which often involved hands of bridge.  The third was Sheila Koop which involved chatting, eating or drinking tea.  Janet’s favourites included the colour blue, daisies, classical music, and Nova Scotia.

Janet took several trips to Europe. There were frequent travels to visit family in Kentville, Nova Scotia, or her brother Dougal and Audrey in Alberta and Vancouver Island.  More recently the trips to Vancouver Island included Mary and Bob Skelton.  Myrtle Beach and Florida were popular destinations.  Many trips involved visiting the adult children, Erin in Boston, Jacksonville, Indianapolis and now Sewickley, near Pittsburgh, Colin in Lake Las Vegas, and Brian in Chicago and now in Kitchener.

A celebration of life for immediate family members will take place at a future date.
