Some men leave an impression. Joe left a legacy. On October 19, 2026, Jose Carlos "Joe" Pimentel passed away in his 73rd year.
Born in the Maia, Azores on October 8, 1954, Joe grew up with the values that would define his life: hard work, resilience, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to family. If you needed help, Joe showed up. In his teen years, once in Canada, relatives relied on Joe for help with banking, securing jobs, rides to appointments, translating and completing paperwork. Joe spent the majority of his career working at the Eureka Foundry (Kelsey Hayes) in various capacities with a final role as Plant Manager.
Joe was an artist and a self-taught musician whose love of music remained with him throughout his life. Strong-willed, determined, and unapologetically himself, he had an authenticity that drew people to him. He never pretended to be anyone other than who he was. If you wanted an honest opinion, Joe would gladly give it. If you needed someone to listen, or help carry a burden, he was there for that too.
Joe’s presence filled a room the moment he entered it. He was the patriarch, the storyteller, the protector, and the rock of his family. Nothing mattered more to him.
Joe shared his love for life with his wife of 28 years, Barb. Together, they embraced every day as an adventure, creating countless memories and opening their home to everyone.
An avid angler, he spent countless hours fishing on his boat in Lake Erie, doing what he loved most and, whenever possible, sharing that experience with those he loved. “ LIVING THE DREAM ”.
Joe faced his lengthy battle with cancer with remarkable courage and determination. Even during his most difficult days, he never stopped fighting and never stopped giving everything he had. True to the way he lived his life, he faced the end on his own terms. He said the things he needed to say, saw the people he wanted to see, and bid farewell to those he loved.
And if all this attention feels like a little too much, those who knew Joe can almost hear him now saying, with a shrug and a smile, "That's life. What are you going to do about it?"
Joe was the eldest of five beloved children and was predeceased by his father Jose Tavares Pimentel (2001), and his mother Lucilia Peixoto Pimentel (1987). He leaves behind his loving wife, Barb. He was the proud father of Joseph (Sarah), Laurie (Ryan), Angie (Chris), Erin (Taylor), and Kyle (Laurie). He will forever be remembered as Doe Doe by his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. Joe will also be deeply missed by his siblings Maria (Doug), Victor (Trina), Maggie (John), and Louisa (Kevin), and the mother of his children, Linda Wells, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure a man so deeply respected.
Thank you, Joe, for the memories you created, the lessons you taught, and the love you gave so freely. But most of all for fighting to stay with us for just one more day.
May the waters be calm, the fish always biting, and the sun forever be warm upon your face.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society . In keeping with Joe’s wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date and those details will be printed here once details have been finalized.
