After a lifetime of battling numerous health ailments, Judy Michelle (née Scott) Takacs passed away comfortably and peacefully on Thursday October 29, 2026, at the age of 77, at Sakura House in Woodstock, Ontario.
Judy will be remembered for her strength, tenacity, and remarkable ability to find laughter, even when it was hardest to find a reason. She had a special way of bringing smiles to the faces of those around her and making people laugh out loud. Her zest for life was truly contagious, and her humour and spirit will be deeply missed.
Judy grew up in Hatchley, the daughter of Sam (1987) and Dora (2019) Scott (née Sherman). She was one of five children: Valerie (2018) (Jim Jull), Judy, Randy (1995) (Jane, née Peters), Laurie (Jim Burnett), and Tracy (Mark Morris). Judy loved sharing stories of the many adventures, antics, and shenanigans she experienced growing up in Hatchley with her family and what became affectionately known as the “Hatchley Crew”. Those memories and friendships held a special place in her heart. It was during those early years that she also met her best friend of more than 70 years, Cheryl McPherson (Beckham).
On March 4, 1972, Judy married Butch ‘Tibor’ Takacs (2026), the love of her life. He was the man she never quite understood how she got lucky enough to call hers. Together, they marched “fourth” into their life as husband and wife. Judy was already good friends with Butch's sister, Yolanda (née Takacs) (Clem Gravelle), making the transition to sisterhood an easy one. Butch's parents, Tibor (1998) and Margaret (2018) (née Hasilo), also became very important people in Judy's life.
Judy and Butch farmed for many years, happily welcoming family and friends to the farm for countless gatherings, celebrations, and games. Family was incredibly important to them both. Although having children of their own did not come easily, Judy was always grateful for the opportunity to help care for so many of their nieces and nephews over the years.
Fourteen years after saying “I do”, Judy and Butch welcomed their first child, followed fairly quickly by their second and third: Viktoria, Scott (Chris), and Kaleb Takacs. Judy often said that motherhood was her favourite, and most difficult, adventure. She devoted herself to being a constant beacon of light, love, and safety for her children. Even when she didn't agree with their choices, one thing was never in question: they were loved unconditionally. Over the years, that same sense of safety and unconditional love extended far beyond her own children, as many of their friends also found a welcoming and comforting place in Judy's heart and home.
Throughout the years, Judy found many ways to stay connected with her community and the people around her. She was involved in numerous groups, committees, and activities, including the Catholic Women's League, 4-H, Burford Bicentennial, Burford Fair, school programs, trivia groups, and euchre groups. Judy also had a great love for animals, which was certainly reflected in the variety of pets that called our house home over the years. At one time, our household included a pet lamb, two dogs, two turtles, a guinea pig, a bird, and even a raccoon!
In 2013 and 2018, Judy and Butch became grandparents, discovering a love neither could ever quite put into words. Kenzi and Korra quickly became their “girls” and their whole world. Judy delighted in sharing her love of animals, games, stories, and stuffed animals with both of them, creating countless memories that will be cherished forever.
As difficult as it is to say goodbye, there is comfort in knowing that Judy has been reunited with Butch after just six months and six days apart. They are together again, free from pain, just as they should be.
Judy, Mom, Grammy… you will be forever and always missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know you and call you theirs. Your laughter, love, and unforgettable spirit will live on in all of us.
