Kay Frances Harris (nee Fortey), aged 82, of St. Thomas, Ontario, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 and is now reunited with her beloved husband and best friend, Silby Byron Harris.
Kay is survived by her children Kimberly (Walt) Speelman of Russell, Sarah (Steve) Rowe of London, Bryn “Guy” Harris of Ottawa, and Suzette (Ben) Myatt of West Lorne. She was a dear grandmother and great-grandmother to many children and a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews. Kay was born in Thorndale, Ontario and was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Mildred Fortey (Logan), her mother and father-in-law, Hector and Sarah Harris (Morgan); her brothers Bruce and Lorne; and her sister Eileen Allen. She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Robert Fewster, Ken Allen, Ken Yeomen, Larry Hundertmark, Ernest Pellow, Cecil, Llewellyn and Norman Harris, and sisters-in-law Mary Gridley (Ron McElhinney), Juanita "Dee" Pellow, Louise Harris, Vivian Andrews, and Brenda Hammond. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Joan Hundertmark, Linda Fewster, Margaret Yeoman, and Lois Williams (David), as well as sisters-in-law Jessie Power, Martha Marple (Mike), and Rosemary Rayner.
After a fulfilling career as an orthopaedic medical office administrator, Kay embraced retirement by dabbling in painting, puzzles, and baking, while faithfully following the NASCAR races with her sisters. Kay was eloquent and insightful and had a profound appreciation of nature’s beauty. She lived simply yet independently, carrying herself with grace and dignity in all that she did. She was the heart of our family - a steady foundation who offered unwavering support and guidance. Having her in our lives was a gift and she will be deeply missed.
Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held later this Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
