L. Jean Caskey

          It is with great sadness that the family of Laura Jean Caskey (nee Jackson) announce her passing on Thursday September 10th, 2026 at the age of 94, with her family by her side.

          Jean was born on August 1st, 1932, in Innisfail, Alberta, the daughter of Dr. John E. and Laura Jackson.  She spent her early and teenage years in Embro, Ontario and although she has lived in other cities throughout her life, it was Woodstock Ontario that she called home.

          Jean’s family was her greatest joy in life and she will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Brenda Thomas (Leo Kosokowsky), Barbara Lonsberry (Ron) and Beverly Farlow (Tom), her grandchildren, Laura Wortley (Joel), Shawn Lonsberry (Shelley), Catherine Delaquis (Serge), Julie Norbruis (Ryan), Erin Trumper (Andrew), Megan Van Ostaeyen (Chris Gerber), and 13 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband John Caskey in 1995 with whom she enjoyed 34 years of adventures, playing games, bowling, camping with friends, listening to music, dancing and spending time with her family.

          Jean was the most independent woman we know.  She was always on the go and loved nothing more than to get in the car and go for a drive, with no planned destination.  She loved attending sporting, music and dance events to watch her grandchildren shine.

          Throughout her life, she dedicated her time and energy toward helping others, and volunteering for numerous groups, including the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary, and the Woodstock Hospital Auxiliary, where she worked in the Coffee Bar and Gift Shop.  She always enjoyed meeting up with friends for coffee, or for a drink at the Navy Club, Legion or Moose Lodge.

          She loved doing the daily puzzles in the paper, word searches, playing cards (especially euchre), cribbage, and board games of all kinds.  But she really loved a good jigsaw puzzle and there was rarely a time that there wasn’t one spread out over the table, (bigger the better) and in recent years, still loved to do them online.

          We would like to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, the staff at McCormick Home in London, and specifically the units where Mom lived (Willow Ridge and more recently on Memory Lane), for their exceptional kindness and care of Mom over the last 6 years she was a resident at the home.  Special thanks go to the extraordinary Life Enrichment staff on Memory Lane, Sabrina, Simona and Brianne, who brilliantly created a world where she could stay mentally, socially and physically active, while living with dementia.  You all brought Mom so much joy. We would also like to thank the nursing, PSW staff, and volunteers for their unwavering care of Mom, and their support of us during her final days.  Catherine, Sandy, Joseph, TuuTu, Helen, Richard, Delaney, and Lani… thank you so much.

          A private family celebration of Jean’s life will take place at a later date.  Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the McCormick Care Foundation .
