Laurie Russell Avey

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce that on December 29, 2020 Laurie Russell Avey of Norwich Ontario passed away peacefully at Sakura House in his 76^th year. 

Laurie was cherished husband and best friend to Barb for 39 years.Loving father to Cheryl Avey (Al Cargill) Alberta, Carrie Teggart (Ron) Bowmanville, Jared Cayley (Miranda Turnbull) Bracebridge, Toni Avey Tillsonburg, Ken Avey (Tina Dyke) Norwich. 

Predeceased by infant son Kendrick Harmen (1967), parents Kendrick and Evelyn (Cowan) Avey and brother-in-law Cliff Burd.

Survived by siblings Ron (Marie) Avey Norwich, Donna (Tom) Awcock Ingersoll, Elaine Fitzmorris London, Sandy (Bob) Bedgood Thorndale, Carol (Dave)Haley Matheson, Murray (Mary) Fingal as well as In-laws Sharon (Brad) Forder Ajax, Joanne (Tim) Caddel  Bonfield, Steve (Consiglia) Cox Paris, Wayne (Anna-Lisa) Cox Woodstock and Mother-in-law Alice Cox Woodstock. 

Proud Papa to Trey (Alyssa) Hylton, Jessica Lewis, Riley Lewis, Alexes Harris-Parry, Kelton Harris, Sarah Keenan, Trinity (Nick) Harris, Lincoln Harris, Jackson Avey, & Shianne Harris. Great Grandbabies Alivia Hylton & Nolan Hylton. Remembered by numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

Laurie loved a good party whether with family &/or friends. Some people say that wherever Laurie went he brought the party with him. A jack of all trades there was nothing he wouldn’t try. For most of his career he was a short distance truck driver. He also picked corn, worked in body shop, the Co-op, Norwich Farm Maintenance to list a few. He also cut grass and plowed snow for B&K during his retirement.

Laurie owned and rode numerous motorcycles for at least 50 years. Laurie was an honorary member of Norwich Rebels Club (he was too young to be official). He has always had at least one antique vehicle even before they became antiques. Laurie also had an interest in steam tractors and regular tractors. Laurie called himself a back-yard mechanic. He used to take out a motor and replace with another one in an afternoon. He was very knowledgeable in mechanics. Laurie knew a lot of people. Every time we would go on a trip or motorcycle ride there would always be someone he knew no matter where we went. If Laurie liked you and counted you as a friend there was nothing he would not do for you. As a sister mentioned Laurie was the sparkplug of the family.

Laurie will be sadly missed by both family and friends. As per Laurie’s wishes there will be no formal service.
