M. Joyce Grist

          Mrs. Joyce (nee Tunny) Grist, aged 90 and forever young at heart, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 18, 2026, in Tavistock, Ontario, Canada.  Born on October 25, 1935, in Edmonton, Alberta, she was the cherished daughter of the late William Joseph Tunny and Ester (Vance) Tunny.

          Joyce lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.  She was a beloved mother to Kevin, Brent, Kathleen and Gary as well as a proud grandmother to Megan and Sarah, who were not only her granddaughters but also her best friends.  She is survived by her son Gary and his wife Roz (Rosalind) Grist, her Grandchildren Megan and Sarah Grist as well as her daughter-in-law Shashi (Vasudeva) Grist.  Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Harold 'Sonny' Grist, siblings Cecil, Muriel, Mary, and Whilma but carried their memories close to her heart throughout her life.

          A woman of many facets, in her earlier years she worked diligently as one of the founding team for the Huntington’s Society of Canada.  Joyce was known for being loving yet stern, sweet yet stubborn, a combination that made her both wickedly caring and fiercely protective of those she held dear.  Her family was the center of her world; she treasured quiet moments spent with them and delighted in playing Scrabble and cribbage with loved ones.  An avid reader with an insatiable curiosity for knowledge, Joyce also embraced modernity with enthusiasm—earning the affectionate title of "The Gadget Queen" for her knack for acquiring and mastering the latest technologies.

          Joyce’s legacy is one of warmth and resilience. Her unwavering dedication to family and her ability to balance strength with tenderness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.  Whether through shared laughter over a game board or quiet conversations during quality time together, she created countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

          May Joyce’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.  An Inurnment will be held on Thursday August 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Prospect Cemetery, 1450 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario where she will be reunited with her husband.  A small Celebration of life reception to follow.  Please contact rgmgrist@gmail.com for information.  In lieu of flowers donations to Huntington Society of Canada and/or Peoplecare Communities Tavistock in memory of Joyce Grist would be greatly appreciated.
