Margaret Anne Thorogood (nee Clayton)
July 17, 1948 – September 17, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our “warrior” Margaret Anne Thorogood, with her children by her side at Sakura House after a brief but exhausting battle of pancreatic cancer.
She was the loving mother to Sheri (Thorogood) Bizarro (Darryl), Wendy (Thorogood) McArthur, and Kevin (Stephanie) Thorogood. Devoted Grandmother to Ashley, KC (Velma), Cody (Emily), Luke (Katie), Celeste (Lanz), Clayton (Ashley), Noah, Madison, and Hayden. Cherished by her nine great-grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her siblings Diane English, Jean Dowswell, Deb (Barry) Wilkins, Alan (Teri) Clayton, sister-in-law Elly Clayton, her many nieces and nephews, and her English cousins - Steve, Gill, Mal and Jayne. Predeceased by her parents Charles (1987) and Evelyn (1998) Clayton, her siblings Brian Clayton (2009) and Cathy Clayton (2019), and her granddaughter Jordan McArthur (1998).
Marg was a kind and loving soul, and was very involved with her family and friends, sharing her joy and passions. She was well known for her love of sports including the Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Nascar. She was also known for her talent in knitting blankets, especially for babies, and enjoyed making doll clothes for her granddaughters. Marg made extraordinary homemade Halloween costumes for all of her grandchildren.
Marg was born and raised in Beachville, and was a resident of Woodstock, Ontario her entire adult life. Marg had a passion for family and family history was paramount. She has compiled multiple family archives with stories and pictures tracing back several generations not only for our family, but for anyone interested in their family history. She felt it was very important for everyone to know their family roots and has even found family in England that she never had an opportunity to meet in person, however connected with them socially and they are now an important part of our family as well.
The family wishes to honour her by purchasing her own resting stone and piece of legacy. If desired, family and friends may make donations toward this cause through thorogoodsestate@gmail.com. Alternatively, donations can be made to VON Sakura House in Marg’s memory.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the nursing staff at Woodstock Hospital, London Health Science Centre - Victoria Hospital and University Hospital, and especially to the Staff and Volunteers at VON Sakura House for their compassion, support and care and for making Mom’s final days as comfortable as possible.
In keeping with Marg’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
