Mary Cowan

          Peacefully at VON Sakura House, Mary passed on August 25, 2026 with her family by her side at age 97.  

          Predeceased by her husband Donald, daughter Candace, son in law Brad Watling, and friend Clare Blain.  Mary is survived by daughters Nancy (George) McKnight, Kim Watling, Tracy (Rob) VanVliet, and Donna (Ian) Cowan, and by Candace’s partner Mike Braun.  She will be missed by her grandchildren Ashley (Dave), William (Jenn), Courtney, Zachary (Audrey), Mick (Chandra), Bradie, and Maegan.  Great grandmother to Sophie, Tristen, Quinn, Tony, Estelle and Maxime.  She will also be missed by close friends Jim and Rose Foster, Stella, Gary, and Donna.

          We would to thank Doctor Fryer, all the staff and volunteers at Sakura House for their care and compassion during our mom’s stay.

          Following Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the VON Sakura House .

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me,  I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free.

 Miss me a little - but not for long, and not with your head bowed low.  Remember the love that we once shared, miss me a little but let me go.

 For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone.  It’s all a part of the master’s plan.  A step on the road to home.

 When you are lonely and sick at heart, go to the friends we know and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
