Mildred Luckham

May 21, 1925 — March 3, 2025

Woodstock, Ontario

Mildred Marjory Luckham passed away peacefully on March 3rd, 2025, in Woodstock, in her 100th year.  She was born on May 21st, 1925, in a ‘Little House on the Prairie’ to Lawrence and Charles-Ann Gould in Disley, Saskatchewan.

Millie married Jack Atkinson in 1947 and together they raised their sons on a Jersey farm in Beaconsfield.  They found both joy and success in working the land and caring for their animals. In her later years,  Millie was always delighted to reminisce on her memories at the farm and was even lucky enough to enjoy a visit or two over the years.   After Jack’s passing, she later found love again with Scott Luckham, where they built a life in Ingersoll together with Scott’s daughters.

Reflecting on a long life well lived, there are so many things we loved about Millie.  Her devotion to family, community, and friends old and new was something to be admired.  Whether it was hard work on the farm with her boys, volunteering in the community, or making new connections with people even through her final years, she navigated each stage with grace.  She was always engaged with the lives of those around her and was proud to care deeply for her family and friends.

Millie had a variety of interests and hobbies, from rug hooking, crocheting, and quilting to card playing, and devising magnificent holiday traditions for her grandchildren and great grandchildren - she truly did it all.  She was always keen to share this creativity, and we feel thankful to have learned from the best.  She was unwaveringly independent, generous, and kind-hearted throughout her entire life. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

She is survived by her sons John Atkinson (Sue) and Bill Atkinson (Ellie), and her stepdaughter Jennifer Luckham, along with her grandchildren Leah Barnes (Jason), Jonathan Atkinson (Alison), Crystal Atkinson (Jordan), and Loni Dirks (Dustin), and great grandchildren Logan (Tom) and Abby Barnes, Ryan and Megan Atkinson, Atlas and Avah Moline, and Scarlett and Leon Dirks.  Millie is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.   She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence (1960) and Charles-Ann Gould (1959), her brothers Mac (1960), George (2015), and Joe (2024) Gould, her husbands Jack Atkinson (1972) and Scott Luckham (1994) and her stepdaughter Deb Boyce (2017).

Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team at Woodstock Hospital for their kind and compassionate care throughout her journey.  A special thanks to the staff and residents at Chartwell Oxford Gardens for their years of friendship, thoughtfulness, and care.

A private family committal will take place at the Oxford Centre Pioneer Cemetery at a later date.  For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Woodstock Hospital.  Wareing Cremation Services, 225 Norwich Ave., Woodstock, Ontario has been entrusted with Final Arrangements. Your messages of remembrance and condolence may be shared here at wareingcremation.ca
