Murray Allan Smith

May 25, 1954 — March 10, 2024

Woodstock

Allan Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday March 10, 2024, at Sakura House, Woodstock, Ontario.

Cherished son of the late Maxwell Smith (2017) and Marjory Smith (2021).  Allan was the beloved Father of daughter Sara (Alex) Bevilacqua, and son Ian Smith, and the proud Grandpa to grandsons Max and Will Bevilacqua.  He will be greatly missed by his brother Donald Bruce (Pam) Smith, brother-in-law Dan Phillips, and sister-in-Law Joyce Smith, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Maurice Smith and Joanne Phillips.

Allan left home at the age of 16 to play hockey for the Elmira Sugar Kings for the team’s first season, staying for 5 years as their goal tender.  He then returned home to become a devoted and dedicated cheesemaker at the family business, Bright Cheese and Butter.  Later in life he became the proud owner and operator of Service Master Clean of Brantford, of which he had much success for more than 20 years.  Allan loved sports, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Yankees.  He also had a great love of watching his grandsons Max and Will develop as hockey players in Ajax.

Allan always brought a smile to those he would meet.  His distinct, infectious laugh could change the mood of a whole room.  He could always find the humour in a situation, and enjoyed keeping things fun with his quick wit.

Cremation has already taken place.  The family would like to send out heartfelt thanks to all of the Staff at Sakura House for their care and compassion during such a difficult time.  Memorial donations to Sakura House or the Canadian Cancer Society on behalf of Allan are greatly appreciated.  A Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date.
