In loving memory of Paul Allan Halonen, who passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday September 1st, 2025 at LHSC - Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. He had achieved his personal goal of reaching the age of 90 and was almost 92 when he passed.
Born in Timmins Ontario, on September 16, 1933, he was the son of Finnish immigrants who had made a new life in Canada. Paul was married for many years to Ruby Gladys Ramsay of Campbellton, Prince Edward Island who has predeceased him. Paul is survived by a devoted family and will be remembered by his children Wende, Tracey, and James, and their families. Paul cherished his family, especially his five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his twin brother John and his older brother Carl.
In high school, Paul was strong academically. He was a member of his school’s hockey and football teams and he was an exceptional musician, performing both classical and jazz repertoire on trumpet, vibraphone and guitar.
In his twenties he regularly played in dance bands across Northern Ontario and Jazz gigs in the Toronto area. As a young man Paul, like his father Edward Halonen, also worked in the Timmins mining industry. He loved the great outdoors and the lakes and forests of northern Ontario were home. Paul’s work ambitions led him to a career in computer programming in the early days of the field and he was self-taught. His career thrived in Toronto and he worked for companies such as BA Oil and North York Hydro.
In the mid 1960’s, his adventurous spirit took him to Canada’s east coast in a collaborative effort between private enterprise and the federal government. Clairtone Sound Corporation Limited made high quality sound electronics and accessories and in its hey-day it made a notable contribution to the field of consumer electronics. Paul was a part of that.
For the 2nd half of his working life Paul worked for the Ford Motor Company in Talbotville, Ontario. He happily retired from Ford in good health with a full pension after 28 years.
Paul was always willing to help friends, family or anyone in need. He had an incredibly generous spirit and an ability to make those he cared about feel safe in the world. He judged no one and had a “live and let live” approach to life.
He will be missed.
