Paul Arthur Masson

June 24, 1944 — February 11, 2025

Ingersoll, Ontario

Paul Arthur Masson left us peacefully at home on February 11, 2025, in his 81st year, with his loving wife Lynda, and his sons Trevor and Kiley by his side.

Born to Allan and Marceline Masson, Paul grew up in Princeton, Ontario where he developed a passion for all things mechanical, fast, and just a little bit over-engineered.  His early years as a member of the Blue Angels Car Club ignited his love for racing, and he quickly found himself behind the wheel, tearing up a track.  After his time in stock car racing, he transitioned to tractor pulling, building and modifying tractors with his brother-in-law Ken Reading as part of the legendary Masson-Reading Pulling Team.  Eventually, he acquired four V-12 Rolls-Royce airplane engines, originally used in WWII Hurricane aircraft and adapted one of them as the powerplant for his pulling tractor.  If it had wheels, an engine, or the potential for improvement with a little welding, Paul was all in.

A career ironworker, Paul spent his days moving heavy machinery and his evenings tinkering in his shop—creating, fixing, and occasionally "modifying" anything that crossed his path.  His greatest joy, however, was his family.  Paul shared 41 wonderful years with his first wife, Betty Jo (née Reading), building a life filled with adventure and shared passions until her passing in 2007.  Together, they experienced tractor pulling, sailing, riding motorcycles, and were always seeking their next thrill or adventure until they settled into their hobby farm in Vienna, Ontario for retirement.

After Jo’s passing, Paul was blessed to find love again with his wife of 13 years, Lynda (née Hubley).  Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter.  Having a lifelong love of music, and with the help of Lynda and friends, he fulfilled his dream of hosting summer barn dances at Crimson Hollow, raising funds for local charities.  At these events, Paul was in his element - entertaining guests with a joke, a story, or an unsolicited but always confident opinion.

Paul was a proud and devoted father to Trevor (Elizabeth) and Kiley (Lindsay), and the proudest grandfather to Paige, Owen, Grayson, and Sterling.  Whether it was hockey, car racing, running, or music, he never missed an opportunity to support them or brag about their talents.  With his quick wit, fearless attitude, and knack for conversation, Paul made friends in every corner of life.  He was always the first to lend a hand, offer advice, and make sure those around him felt welcomed and supported.  His personality was captivating, and his stories will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 1st, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Mount Elgin Community Centre, 333204 Plank Line, Mount Elgin, Ontario.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Paul’s memory.

Though Paul has embarked on his next adventure, his spirit will forever echo in the roar of an engine, the rich sound of a steel guitar, and the laughter of loved ones gathered together.  He was one of a kind, and we were all lucky to call him ours.
