It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Cudney on June 21, 2026, at the age of 73, with his family by his side.
Born on July 11, 1952, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, humour, and a deep love for his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Richard is lovingly remembered by his son Jeremy (Christa), and his daughter Charity (Darryl). He was a proud Grandpa and Papa to Harley, Travis, Matthew, and Ellie, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his siblings Michael, Randy, Wendy, Barb, Mary, and Patti. Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife Wilhelmina Jeltje Cudney, his mother Eileen, his father William Franklin, his brother Larry, sister Sharon, and Baby Janet.
Richard dedicated many years of service to CP Rail before retiring. His love of being behind the wheel continued as he drove a school bus for Langs Bus Lines in Strathroy, where he enjoyed connecting with the community. An avid outdoorsman, Richard loved spending time fishing and hunting. He was a passionate sports fan who faithfully watched the Toronto Blue Jays and proudly cheered for his favourite hockey team, the Ottawa Senators. He had a lifelong fascination with trains and remained a true train enthusiast throughout his life. Richard was known for his sense of humour, his strong work ethic, and his kind heart. He was also a devoted animal lover and deeply missed his beloved dog, Viper.
More than anything, Richard cherished the time he spent with his family. The memories he created, the stories he shared, and the laughter he brought to those around him will be treasured forever. Though he is no longer with us, Richard's love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. To respect Richard's wishes there will be no funeral, visitation or celebration of life.
