Leonard Clifford

August 1, 1936 — May 29, 2024

Courtland, Ontario

Leonard Clifford was born on August 1, 1936, and he passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 29, 2024, in his 88th year.

Born in Simcoe, Ontario, he lived in Otterville most of his life.  As a teen he loved working in the hay fields of Bookton.

Then, he joined his father’s construction company running draglines and driving bulldozers.  That work encouraged his decision to be educated and to graduate with a license of “Dr. of Power Cranes and Shovels”.

Len was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.  From the heights of his crane, Len had a bird’s eye view of so many sites including the construction of nuclear power plants, 400 series highways, the CN Tower, and completed his career with the construction of the Toronto Sky Dome.

In his retirement Len built community by sharing his joy of building bird houses with family and so many others.  His talents can be spotted around southern Ontario and well beyond.

Loving Dad of Cindy Robinson, Dean Clifford and his wife Bonnie, the late Darin Clifford, and the late Cheryl Clifford.   Father-in-law of Sue Malone.   Grandpa will be dearly missed by his ‘bird house apprentices’ Kale (Virginia) Robinson, Justin (Holly) Carr, Jessie (Marcus) Strohman, and Wyatt Barker (Victoria Kluber).  Great Grandpa of Ember and Luna.  Remembered by his sister Norma Hussey, and his nieces and nephews.  Dear friend of Jean Glover.

Len was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Donnie and Luella Clifford.

Please join our family for a Celebration of Life on Saturday July 27, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Woodlawn Adult Centre, 225422 Main Street, Otterville, Ontario.  Memorial donations to Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice are most appreciated by Len's Family.
