Theresa ‘Terry’ Chisholm: wife, mother, grandmother, book club member, champion bowler, dog walker, and proud Maritimer, died peacefully at home on March 3, 2025, in the embrace of her closest family members. Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1954, Terry was the daughter of two unrelated Chisholms, and the fourth of twelve children.
She moved to Toronto in the late 1970s, and met her husband Michael in 1981 as they both worked in the same industry. Later, Terry and Michael joined forces leading the Canadian Learning Company. They worked together for decades, eventually moving their business and home to Woodstock in 1995. Terry became an active member of the community and grew deep roots (literally) in Woodstock. She spent two decades on the Woodstock Santa Claus Parade committee and was a champion trivia team member. She was devoted to feeding neighbourhood birds. She participated in the Canada Blooms competition, was an accomplished gardener, and a two-time stage actor.
Terry was an undisputed genius at word games. She built a close circle of friends and kept close ties with her siblings. She was a devoted book club member, and lifelong avid reader. She made pottery. A talented sewist, many friends and family members have quilts and items that she made. The definition of a multi-talent, she also bowled for years and was a champion in her ten-pin league. She was an accomplished baker, and derived great joy baking for her loved ones, culminating with a 1940s Maritime war cake in her final week.
She maintained her feistiness and sense of humour until the end. Terry was unwaveringly committed to making things easy for those around her, including in her passing. Missing her already is her husband Michael Harding, daughter Jen and her husband Mark and grandson Isaac, son David and his wife Lindsey and grandson Theodore. Survived by siblings Claire, Leonard, Mary, Pauline, Francis, Colin, Colleen, and Patrick. Predeceased by siblings Priscilla, Roderick (Roddy), and Andy. She is also dearly missed by her book club girls Heather, Kim, sister Mary, Tanya, and Tracey who have been meeting since March 2002. There is no replacement for Terry, but we know they will continue on discussing good (and less good…) books just as she would expect.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Saint Elizabeth Foundation, who provided palliative and in-home hospice care with the utmost kind and nurturing compassion in Terry’s final months.
