The world feels a little dimmer as we share the passing of Tibor Joseph Takacs on Thursday April 23, 2026, at the age of 78. Tibor, lovingly known as Butch, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, following a short but courageous third battle with cancer.
A retired farmer, well-borer, and school bus driver, Butch often joked that he was a “jack of all trades, master of none”. In truth, he was a hard worker, a human calculator and GPS, a dedicated friend, and a devoted family man. A gentle giant, he was truly one of a kind, with a smile and laugh that were both warm and infectious.
Tibor is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy (née Scott) Takacs. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his children, Viktoria Takacs, Scott (Chris) Takacs, and Kaleb Takacs, as well as his two favourite girls, his granddaughters, Kenzi and Korra Takacs, who proudly called him G’pa. Butch will be missed by his sister Yolanda (Clem) (Tibor Banjar deceased) Gravelle, his Aunt Pearl Hasilo, his cousins, and his in-laws Laurie (Jim) Burnett, Tracy (Mark) Morris, Jane Scott (Randy deceased), Jim Jull (Valerie deceased), and Cheryl Macpherson (John deceased). He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his father Tibor A. Takacs (1998), his mother Margaret (née Hasilo) Takacs (2018), and his in-laws Sam Scott (1987), and Dora (née Sherman) Scott (2019).
In keeping with Tibor’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be returned to his family. **PLEASE NOTE Change of Venue: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 30th, 2026, from 12 to 5 p.m., at the Hungarian Hall, 71 King Street, Delhi, Ontario. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Tibor’s life. Please bring your favourite memories to share. In honour of his love for bright colours - especially blues and greens - guests are encouraged to dress comfortably in vibrant attire.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tibor’s memory may be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre, where he received exceptional care. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. G. Fraser and Dr. J. Ozog-Bartlett for their compassion and support.
