William Birch

November 8, 1951 — February 29, 2024

Woodstock

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Birch Family announce the passing of William C. Birch, a loving father of three, father-in-law, cherished grandfather of ten, great grandfather of four, a brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, on February 29, 2024, in his 73rd year.

Loving father of Julie Thompson (Carver), Tom Birch (Rhobin), and Alyssa Zehr. Survived by his siblings Catherine Hatt (Rick), Bob Birch (Bev), Jack Birch (Michele), Brenda Stephenson Ballam (Peter), Charlie Birch (Charlene), and Paul Birch (Chris). Predeceased by his parents Tom and Jean Birch, brother-in-law Mark Stephenson, son-in-law Zeb Chesney, grandson Justin McDonald, and great nephew Blake La Plante.

Bill was born in Peterborough and moved to Woodstock during his teen years. It was in Woodstock where he created last longing friendships through his passion of sports. Bill excelled at hockey, baseball, golf, and lacrosse and continued playing those sports throughout his time in Woodstock.

Bill retired from Aramark in 2003, where he was known to be a manager that genuinely cared for his employees.  After his retirement, Bill could be seen around Woodstock on his daily walks which to him was a “short 3-hour walk”.  Bill had a love for the Toronto Maple Leafs but had a soft spot for Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers .

Memories of Bill will be his passion and his love for his family.  Be it soccer, horseback riding, dance, baseball, hockey, or basketball, you would always see Bill on the sidelines cheering proudly for his grandchildren regardless of the weather.  It is at the Birch family functions where you would see Bill at his happiest moments singing along with his siblings and his dad.

In keeping with Bill’s request, cremation has taken place.  Friends near and far are invited to The Woodstock Navy Club on Sunday March 24, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m., to Celebrate Bill’s life with his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Juvenile Diabetes or the Canadian Cancer Society are most appreciated.
