William James Archer 'Jim'

On Friday August 26, 2022 William James Archer went home to be with his Lord and Saviour. He was born on a farm to Edna (Parnham) and William Archer in Tay Township on March 11th, 1931. While growing up he enjoyed life working on the family farm. Jim could turn his hand to anything including building his first home in Forest Home, Ontario. After leaving the family farm Jim worked in several different occupations before finally landing a position with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Jim loved his job, rising to District Enforcement Supervisor, a position he held until his retirement in 1989.

Jim married Laurene Agnes Fell in 1953. Together they had 4 children, Allan Scott Archer (Nancy), Arden Gibson, Lesley Evans (Mark), and Dana Brown (Alfred). He was predeceased by Dana (July 2016) and Laurene (September 2016). His pride and joy were his 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He would always jokingly tell them to remember to say, “I’m Jim Archer’s grandchild”, when applying for summer jobs, school or permanent employment.

He led a very active and happy life up until 3 years ago when his health began to decline. His desire to lead a Christian life was very evident to everyone who knew him. He served actively in his church teaching Sunday School, Boys Brigade and was honoured to enroll each of his 10 grandchildren in Daily Vacation Bible School during their summer holidays at First Baptist Church Waterloo where he worshipped for 40 plus years. Every one of the grandchildren have fond and hilarious memories of activities and outings with their cherished Poppy.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at Williamsburg Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario on Saturday October 8, 2022 at 10:30 am.  A small reception in the chapel will follow. Family and close friends are welcome.
